Dear families, students, teachers and volunteers,

Welcome to our fourth year at Monroe Middle School!  We are excited to see our students focus on leadership development, strengthen their teamwork skills and practice public speaking through hands-on learning opportunities.  In the 2008-2009 Academic Year, Citizen Schools' students will visit the Tech Museum, participate in a variety of team challenges and discover new careers through Apprenticeships.

Each day we start with one hour of homework time, called AIM (Aspire, Invest, Make the Grade).  Twice a week, students participate in Apprenticeship classes taught by community volunteers.  These classes are hands-on learning experiences where students practice real world skills such as computer animation, entrepreneurship, cooking and so much more!  Throughout every program element, Citizen Schools' staff reinforces the following message:  Hard Work + Effort = Success!

Students in Citizen Schools also have fun.  They participate in team-building activities every week and go on off-campus field trips, called Explorations, once a month.
