Growth Strategy

Our vision is that one day all children will develop the academic skills and leadership abilities needed to contribute and succeed as workplace and civic leaders. We believe that out-of-school time represents the greatest untapped opportunity to positively influence outcomes for children, particularly lower-income children. We model high quality programming, complement and enhance the work of in-school education improvement efforts, and strengthen local communities through authentic volunteer, youth, and parent engagement.

Our strategy to achieve our long-term vision of strengthening the after-school sector as a way to educate children and strengthen communities is to prove impact and achieve scale in Boston, build and sustain a high-quality national network, and strengthen the after school sector. By increasing the number of youth served and volunteers engaged and demonstrating results with a large number of children across the country, we will build Citizen Schools' reputation and capacity for future growth and ultimately build a bigger and better national after-school sector.

With each site added to the Citizen Schools network, we build a bigger and better national after-school sector to meet the diverse developmental and academic needs of our young people. Our growth plans aim for programs in 75 schools serving 7,700 students with 6,200 volunteers by 2012.
