All Together Now - A Celebration of Service

What brings Kid Rock, four former Presidents, Garth Brooks and Citizen Schools CEO Eric Schwarz into the same room? A love for service of course!

Our CEO Eric Schwarz and Executive Director of Public Policy and Communications, Christin Driscoll attended Points of Light's “All Together Now: A Celebration of Service” event on Tuesday, March 22nd. The celebration honored President George H. W. Bush for his visionary leadership in the American service movement and featured speeches from all four living former Presidents, as well as musical performances by such great artists as Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Darius Rucker, Cee Lo Green, Kid Rock and more!

The celebration will air on NBC on Monday, March 28th at 8:00pm.

Christin Driscoll reflects on the event's inspirational moments and promising implications:

It was exciting to be in the company of all of the living former Presidents – I have met or seen them all before, but never all at once.  We sat directly above them, so couldn’t see them until they took the stage, but you could feel the electricity in the room! And of course for me, there was great politico watching as many of Washington’s powerful turned out to honor President Bush.

Bill Clinton made an impassioned plea for keeping AmeriCorps alive and relayed a moving story about how the outgoing President Bush asked him to keep Points of Light going and how he, in turn, asked incoming President George W. Bush to keep AmeriCorps going and they all honored each others’ wishes to ensure the preservation of volunteerism and national service!

The event also showcased Americans across the country who are helping their communities in large and small ways – there were so many stories of inspiration of people making their communities, their schools, and the environment we all share better for all of us!

Points of Light honored the spirit of volunteerism and the work of President George H.W Bush last Monday night, in a piece set to air this Monday at 8:00pm on NBC.
