Elizabeth Leiwant Receives Citizen Schools Village Building Award

Citizen Schools is proud to recognize Elizabeth as a 2010 – 2011 winner of our annual Village Building Award. The Village Building Award is given annualy to two Citizen Schools staff members who exemplify community building. The other award winner this year was Nadia K. Selby. Elizabeth is a Teaching Fellow at the Isaac Newton Middle School in East Harlem, NY. She has been with Citizen Schools for two years, participating in the Teaching Fellowship, and has been a leader and valuable team member. Elizabeth was nominated by Jennifer Hart, a colleague at the Isaac Newton.

Elizabeth’s nominator had the following to say about her:

"Elizabeth Liewant is an extraordinary individual who has made it her mission to unite people wherever she works in order to create an environment where people are striving towards positive and meaningful goals."

"I have never seen her do a job half-way because she cares so deeply about everyone that her work affects. No one, she believes, whether it's her kids, her CTs, her staff, deserves anything less than her best work."
