Igniting Moments of Discovery at Citizen Schools’ WOW!NOW Breakfast
On Friday, April, 26th, Citizen Schools staff & students, families, AmeriCorps Teaching Fellows, corporate and community partners came together to celebrate the inspiring and hard work of middle school students, volunteer Citizen Teachers and AmeriCorps Teaching Fellows for our annual WOW!NOW Breakfast fundraising event.
Attendees had the opportunity to learn from students about coding, robotics, law and more during the WOW! Gallery, where students presented their final projects. These projects were a culmination of their semester-long apprenticeships. Many individuals and corporations attended to show support including keynote speaker, PillPack Chief Operating Officer, Yvonne Hao. Students presented their work alongside volunteer partners Dell, John Hancock Investments, Trinity Partners, PillPack, General Electric, Jones Day, Google, Northeastern University, Cambridge Associates and Fidelity.
Marlon, our student emcees and 6th grade student at Young Achievers Math and Science Pilot School and Elias Miranda, Citizen Schools National Board Member and former Citizen Schools student showed us the impact of the mission of Citizen Schools. In fact, Marlon even shared what he learned in his apprenticeship this year, noting that we should all be investing 15% of our income for retirement! Yvonne Hao, delivered a powerful message about what committed corporate citizenship can and should be in our local communities and how volunteership among employees fosters corporate teamwork and engagement.
We would like to thank everyone for who joined us in celebration for an extremely memorable morning and our sponsors including Leader Sponsors: Amazon and Becton Dickinson.
