Maggie Redfern teaches Urban Gardening at the Irving

Apprentices at the Irving Middle School will have “green thumbs” by the end of this semester, as they master the art of Urban Gardening.  In this apprenticeship taught by Maggie Redfern, a Visitor Education Assistant at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, students are learning about vegetable gardening including propagation, preparing a site, plant growth, composting, organic approaches, and using healthy foods.  Maggie's "urban gardeners" are working to create a handbook with companion recipes in addition to planting a garden at the Roslindale community garden.  Maggie Redfern
