Nadia K. Selby Receives Citizen Schools Village Building Award
Citizen Schools is proud to recognize Nadia K. Selby as a 2010 - 2011 winner of our annual Village Building Award. The Village Building Award is given annualy to two Citizen Schools staff members who exemplify community building. The other award winner this year was Elizabeth Leiwant. Nadia is Campus Director at the Gavin Middle School in Boston, MA. She has been with Citizen Schools for three years, advancing from positions as a Team Leader and Teaching Fellow, and has consistently demonstrated excellence and leadership and a commitment to diversity. Nadia was nominated for this award by fellow staff member Rachael Borr and the Principal of the Gavin Middle School, Alexander Matthews.
Nadia's nominators had the following to say about her:
"The moment (about Nadia) I remember the most was when she led a dance/step apprenticeship with over twenty young ladies from the Gavin. I was more than amazed at how she was able to implement discipline and commitment amongst this very diverse group of students to create an exemplary display of talent."
"Ms. Selby has reached beyond her organizational borders by integrating herself into the fabric of the Gavin throughout the year. It would have been far simpler for Ms. Selby to focus only after school time. However, she knew that linking - in a meaningful way - with the faculty and administration of the school would be a far more powerful way to positively impact the lives of the students."
