Neal to Lengthen Sixth Graders' Day The Herald Sun

September 6, 2011

Following the announcement of Neal Middle School's new partnership with Citizen Schools yesterday, the new extended day program was featured in The Herald Sun.

The Durham, NC school will begin their partnership with Citizen Schools by lengthening the school day for about 270 sixth-graders for three hours, four days a week. During the expanded hours, students will receive academic support, including participation in language arts "academic league" aimed at raising proficiency in English Language Arts, and take apprenticeships.

Some apprenticeships that students will have the opportunity to participate in include "Invest Like a Millionaire," taught by Fidelity Investments employees and "Mock Trials", taught by Duke and N.C. Central University law students. Read the full story on the school's expanded school day here.
