Building the Workforce of Today and Tomorrow
You know that Citizen Schools is setting middle school students on a path to success, but did you know that we’re also supporting the professional development of America’s current workforce? Time and again, our volunteer Citizen Teachers tell us that we’re contributing to their skills, productivity and happiness in their day jobs. In our most recent Citizen Teacher survey, respondents told us that volunteering with Citizen Schools:
Helped them improve their team-building skills “If you want to prove that you can tackle new challenges, lead others and continue to manage your workload, volunteer to teach an apprenticeship! At the end of ten weeks you’ll have accomplished all that, and made a wonderfully positive impact on the lives of young people.” – Scott Bohlen, Vice President, Fidelity Capital Markets and Citizen Teacher
Provided opportunities to network “From trainings to WOW!s, there are many opportunities for Citizen Teachers to meet and network with each other. Citizen Schools has provided a great way for me and my colleagues to get to know one another and to meet new friends from peer companies.” – Lindsay Horner, Public Service Coordinator, WilmerHale and Citizen Teacher
“My apprenticeship helped me connect with amazing computer scientists that care a great deal about education.” – Citizen Teacher survey respondent
Helped them improve their public speaking, presentation, and communication skills “Teaching helps develop communication and presentation skills. I feel like I build the skills I need at work by creating lesson plans and executing those plans in the classroom.” – Citizen Teacher survey respondent
“My experience at Citizen Schools allowed me to apply and practice facilitation and teaching skills and thus was professionally enhancing.” – Citizen Teacher survey respondent
In addition, a whopping 98% would recommend serving as a Citizen Teacher to their colleagues.
