Today, Citizen Schools’ Make For All initiative is launching its 2020 national call for commitments in support of maker-centered learning at FabxLive, the global Fab Lab Network conference, hosted by the Fab Foundation. In 2019, Make For All announced 50+ commitments, representing 295 organizations and partners in support of maker-centered learning, focused on empowering students to develop the mindset, skills and experiences that are critical to preparing them for the jobs of the future, being innovative problem-solvers and creative entrepreneurs. These commitments will serve more than 768,000 students in 149 communities across the U.S. through 2021.

Revolution Players Visit East Somerville Community School

They’re helping to start a “Revolution” on the field – and in the classroom. Members of the New England Revolution Major League Soccer team will visit students at the East Somerville Community School, at 50 Cross Street in Somerville on Thursday, May 17 at 5:30 pm. as part of Citizen Schools’ apprenticeship program - which provides students with hands-on, project-based learning experiences that connect what they learn in school to real world career pathways.   Revolution starting Defender Andrew Farrell, along with Marketing Supervisor Matthew Miller and a coach from the New England Revolution Academy, will be on hand, delivering school necessities donated at a recent Revolution home game and playing soccer with the students.

US2020 Announces National STEM Coalition Challenge

WASHINGTON, D.C. – October 10, 2017 – Today US2020 announced the launch of the STEM Coalition Challenge, a call to action for nonprofit organizations, school districts, universities, businesses, and public offices to increase the quantity and quality of STEM volunteerism and maker-centered learning across the country. The challenge will expand the US2020 Learning Network to a total of 16 locations, reaching more than 25,000 children within the first year of programming.

Google.org Expands Major Funding for Citizen Schools in Bay Area

Redwood City, CA—August 1, 2017 – Today, Citizen Schools, a national nonprofit that partners with public schools to provide academic enrichment in underserved communities in four states, is announcing a major financial investment of $500,000 from Google.org, bringing the company’s total support of Citizen Schools to over $4.5 million.
