In 2025, Citizen Schools is celebrating its 30th year of impact and looking ahead to our next chapter of service for schools across the country.
Citizen Schools was founded 30 years ago on MLK Day in 1995, inspired by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s call for all Americans to serve.
Since then, thousands of volunteers, AmeriCorps members, staff, and allies have reached tens of thousands of students and teachers across the country. An incredible 30 years of learning together.
Experience. Engagement. Extraordinary.

Please stay tuned for more to come in 2025!
Today, Citizen Schools is preparing to achieve its mission at a national scale with its new strategic plan, new programming model and new leaders, CEO Nadia K. Selby and Board Chair Bing Howell.
Empowering schools, districts and communities to work together, we are continuing to bring resources and trained volunteers to classrooms, and making experience-based learning for students extraordinary.
If you would like to learn more about our 30th Anniversary activities please write to our team at externalengagement@citizenschools.org. If you're a former student, staff member, volunteer, partner, or are new to our community and would like to join us, we'd love to hear from you!
