Citizen Teacher: Mr. Brendin, AllianceBernstein

Two students at work with an AllianceBernstein Citizen Teacher

For this partnership, we partnered with a wealth management company called AllianceBernstein. The idea for this apprenticeship stemmed from the television show Shark Tank. On this show, entrepreneurs pitch their product to potential investors.

In this apprenticeship, we invited students to create solutions to issues that they see in their lives. The main goals of this apprenticeship were critical thinking development and improving public speaking skills.

Our students rose to the challenge and selected the following topics such as youth homelessness, crime and kidnapping. At the beginning of the semester, our students created issue trees. These issue trees helped them delve further into their topics by identifying the intended outcomes, root causes, and possible solution.

Since transitioning to our online format, our students have continued to work collaboratively. Team members were assigned different aspects. They came together virtually to complete their assignments.
