Citizen Teachers: Mx. Harry & Ms. Isha
TEACHING FELLOW: Ms. hall

We started this semester with a new group of students eager to learn about building and programming robots. Three weeks into semester, students had just finished building their robotic vehicles called Rover, and started learning about coding. However, when schools closed due to COVID-19, with no robots at home to continue, Mx. Harry quickly adapted Lego Robotics to use Scratch as an alternative. Scratch is an online software that uses programming blocks to create animations, interactive stories and games.

Scroll through to check out these awesome Scratch projects, two of which are even narrated by students Edwin and Sanders!

To interact with a Scratch project, click or touch the green flag in the upper left corner of the project. Interact with the project by touching the screen, moving the mouse, or pushing the arrow keys and space bar. Some projects require a keyboard to interact with.

Alex by Alarixy (PS 157)

Use space & arrow keys

“This project was inspired by Harry Potter.  I used a sprite Hermione, a wand, and imported a drawing I made of an original character, on a background the reminded me of Hogwarts Castle. When the program is ran you will see Hermione say a few words. If you have a keyboard after running the program you can push the left and right arrows to make the wand and original character appear and disappear. When my original character is on screen the space bar will make her move around.”

Naruto Chakra Mode PONG by Edwin (PS 157)

Use mouse / touch

“In this game, using my favorite character Naruto, you move the paddle with your mouse to keep Naruto in the air and prevent him from hitting the floor. If Naruto lands on the floor, it is GAME OVER! I enjoyed this class and I learned how to use block codes to make different games. In the future, I want to make more games, specifically animating cool battle scenes with total destruction!”

Other Work by Edwin: Naruto Running

First Project by Sanders (PS 157)

Use arrow keys

“What I learned from Lego Robotics is how to code and make a game. I could use what I learned in the future by practicing more to get a job in Google for coding. I made a game where you are the bat and you are chasing the mosquito. Everytime the bat touches the mosquito you get points.”

POKEMANS GAME by Cuauhtemoc (PS 157)

Use mouse / touch

“During class I learned how to make anime games. In one of my games you catch balls with a paddle and don’t let touch anything else.”

Other Work by Cuauhtemoc: Naruto Game Naruto vs Sasuke

Untitled by Joshua (PS 157)

Not interactive

“This project was my first experience with Scratch. I placed two sprites on a space background. When the project is ran the bear moves forward and the cat moves in an 'S' shape.”
