Teaching Fellows: Lucy (AFAS)

This spring, Argenziano scholars learned about media literacy, the rights of student reporters, who makes the decisions about what media we see in the US, how to prepare for and conduct an interview, and writing strong articles! Scholars interviewed each other, teachers and staff, and special guest Somerville City Council member Stephanie Hirsch, pictured below.

Articles written by students in Ms. Billings' Investigative Reporting club

Before we went virtual, students produced investigative articles, book reviews, memes and more for the Argenziano Citizen Schools newsletter. You can read some of their work from the newsletter here, and a wonderful article on environmental issues in Ukraine by 5th grader Yuriy Sereda here. Some incredible articles that were in progress this spring included an investigative piece on Somerville road construction, a column about Somerville community sports, an investigative column on climate change, and bios of each of the Investigative Reporting students. These scholars always had intuitive questions to ask, thoughtful and wise contributions to our discussions, and so much energy for the projects they were working on! I know we will be seeing their names in newspapers, podcasts, and videos in the future!
